Dubai, UAE – Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts is making a highly anticipated comeback to Germany, announcing plans to open a new luxury property in Berlin in partnership with leading European developer Gruppo Statuto. The project will see the historic Hotel de Rome undergo an extensive transformation before relaunching as Four Seasons Hotel Berlin in late 2027—marking the brand’s return to the German capital after two decades.
The ambitious renovation will preserve the iconic façade of the 19th-century landmark while completely reimagining its interiors. The upgraded property will feature around 140 redesigned guest rooms and suites, alongside newly concepted restaurants and bars. The design approach aims to merge classic elegance with contemporary sophistication, mirroring Berlin’s unique blend of history, creativity, and modern culture.
“We are proud to mark our return to Germany, reestablishing Four Seasons as the leading luxury hospitality offering in the market,” said Alejandro Reynal, President and CEO of Four Seasons. “Berlin is an important European destination, and we look forward to once again collaborating with Gruppo Statuto, with whom we’ve successfully introduced Four Seasons service excellence across several key destinations.”
Originally constructed in the late 1800s as the headquarters of Dresdner Bank, the building first transitioned into a hotel in 2006. Standing prominently in the city’s historic Mitte district on Bebelplatz, the future Four Seasons Hotel Berlin will place guests within walking distance of major cultural and architectural landmarks, including St. Hedwig’s Cathedral, the Unter den Linden State Opera, the Brandenburg Gate, Gendarmenmarkt, and the UNESCO-listed Museum Island.
Hotel de Rome will continue operations under Gruppo Statuto management through 2026, with phased renovations planned ahead of the official Four Seasons reopening. Select amenities will remain accessible during the transformation. The hotel’s transition will be overseen by Christian Poda—Berlin native and seasoned Four Seasons executive—who returns home after serving as Regional Vice President and General Manager of Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong.
“Hotel de Rome has a rich history and an exciting future as a Four Seasons property,” said Giuseppe Statuto, Owner of Gruppo Statuto. “Building on our successful collaborations in Italy, we will elevate the guest experience while preserving the building’s distinctive character.”
A Design Vision Rooted in Heritage
Global design firm Humbert & Poyet will lead the architectural and interior overhaul, ensuring the hotel’s historic features remain central to the renewed aesthetic. Guests can expect three signature dining venues, including a rooftop terrace with panoramic views of Berlin—poised to become a vibrant social hub for locals and visitors.
The hotel will also offer a spa and fitness centre uniquely located in what was once the building’s jewel vault, along with more than 1,000 square metres of versatile indoor and outdoor event space for meetings, celebrations, and gatherings.
Conveniently located less than an hour from Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) and just 15 minutes from the Berlin Central Station (Hauptbahnhof), the property will provide seamless access to major German cities and neighbouring European destinations such as Vienna, Prague, Zurich, Warsaw, Budapest, and Amsterdam via high-speed rail.
This Berlin project adds to the successful partnership between Four Seasons and Gruppo Statuto, who have previously collaborated on Four Seasons Hotel Milano, San Domenico Palace in Taormina, and the upcoming Danieli, A Four Seasons Hotel, Venice.
