Dubai, UAE – Assouline has unveiled The Mark, a new publication celebrating one of New York City’s most legendary hotels. Authored by New York Times best-selling writer Derek Blasberg, the book explores the enduring elegance, cultural relevance, and unmistakable allure of The Mark, a symbol of refined luxury on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.

Released to mark the 20th anniversary of the hotel’s landmark reimagining, the book was developed under the creative direction of Prosper Assouline, in close collaboration with The Mark’s ownership and marketing teams. The result is a richly layered volume that mirrors the sophistication and character of the hotel itself.
The publication coincides with a milestone year for The Mark. In October, the hotel was named to The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2025 list, earning the distinction of being the only New York City hotel — and one of just two in the United States — to receive the honor. The recognition underscores the hotel’s reputation for exceptional hospitality and its role as a cultural touchstone for both international visitors and local tastemakers.

More than a century after its original opening, The Mark continues to embody New York excellence. Its modern identity was shaped in 2005 when acclaimed interior designer Jacques Grange led a bold redesign, introducing a vision defined by contemporary elegance and French sophistication. Collaborating with creative luminaries including Karl Lagerfeld, Guy de Rougemont, Paul Mathieu, and Mattia Bonetti, Grange transformed the hotel into a space of striking contrasts, where grandeur meets ease and classic luxury embraces modern imagination. The hotel’s iconic black-and-white striped lobby and bespoke interiors have since become hallmarks of its visual identity.

Over the years, The Mark has evolved beyond a luxury hotel into a cultural hub for artists, designers, and fashion’s most influential figures. Widely regarded as the unofficial headquarters of the Met Gala, the hotel has hosted countless memorable moments, from headline-making arrivals to exclusive collaborations. Signature experiences — including custom pedicabs to the Met steps and private sailboat excursions across New York Harbor — reflect the hotel’s distinctive blend of creativity, indulgence, and urban spirit.
Blasberg’s book offers readers an intimate look inside this world through archival photography, original illustrations by Jean-Philippe Delhomme, and portraits of notable guests. It explores the hotel’s most celebrated spaces, from the grand penthouse — the largest hotel penthouse suite in the United States — to Frédéric Fekkai’s flagship salon, Caviar Kaspia at The Mark, Jean-Georges’ renowned restaurant and in-room dining, the Mark Bar, and the Assouline boutique. Together, these elements reveal how The Mark has become a dynamic crossroads of art, fashion, gastronomy, and culture.

Founded in Paris in 1994 by Prosper and Martine Assouline, Assouline is recognized as the first luxury brand dedicated to culture. With more than 2,000 titles published and a global network of collaborators spanning art, design, fashion, and travel, the maison continues to set the standard for modern cultural publishing through its dedication to craftsmanship, creativity, and storytelling.
