Bangkok, Thailand – The Langham Hospitality Group has opened reservations for The Langham, Customs House, Bangkok, with stays available from December 20, 2026. The highly anticipated riverside hotel is set along Bangkok’s Chao Phraya River in the Bang Rak district and is centered around the city’s historic Customs House, which is currently undergoing meticulous restoration.

Built in 1888 during the reign of King Rama V, the iconic Customs House once served as Thailand’s gateway to the world. Today, the landmark is being given a new chapter as part of a landmark hospitality destination that blends the site’s rich heritage with contemporary luxury.

Managed by Langham Hospitality Group, the hotel will feature 60 rooms and 15 suites, designed as a tranquil retreat in the heart of the capital. The property combines understated luxury with a deep sense of place, drawing inspiration from its exceptional riverside setting and the historic character of its surroundings.

The hotel’s accommodation is housed in a contemporary building adjacent to the Customs House. Rather than attempting to recreate the historic complex as it once was, the design approach pays tribute to the site’s legacy while giving it a renewed purpose for the future.

The contemporary building was designed by renowned Thai architect Smith Obayawat, founder and principal of OPA. Its gently curved structure echoes the movement of the river, creating a respectful architectural counterpart to the heritage building next door — with the Customs House representing the “grandfather” and the new addition its “grandchild.”

Inside, elegant residential-style interiors, thoughtful details and modern comforts create a sophisticated dialogue between past and present. Guest rooms and suites offer views across tranquil courtyards, Bangkok’s skyline or the river flowing alongside the hotel’s grand façade. Natural materials, soft lighting and subtle finishes evoke the spirit of Siam, creating an atmosphere that balances warmth, serenity and refined elegance.

Sculptural polished-metal bathtub pods draw inspiration from precious materials and symbols of prestige, including coins and gilded details, recalling the elegance and prosperity of the reign of King Rama V. The design narrative continues through geometric motifs inspired by diamond-shaped mosaic patterns found in Thai temples, traditional architecture and sculpture, complemented by distinctive decorative lighting that reinterprets royal symbols and ceremonial weaponry.

These influences are particularly pronounced in the suites, which evoke the grandeur and sophistication associated with Thailand’s nobility. Together, the design elements create a refined conversation between heritage and contemporary craftsmanship, complemented by The Langham’s signature colour palette and modern amenities.

The new destination will also feature Chuan Spa and a state-of-the-art fitness centre equipped with Technogym’s premium Sandstone Collection, marking the first installation of its kind in Asia.

At the heart of the development, the restored Customs House and surrounding heritage structures will be transformed into vibrant public spaces. The revitalised buildings will become lively gathering places featuring a range of dining, drinking and contemporary lifestyle experiences, which will be announced at a later date.
