New York, USA – VMG (Velocity Made Good), a newly established shipyard specializing in high-performance luxury trimarans, has revealed fresh details of its inaugural model, the VMG 53, a 16-meter trimaran designed to redefine the balance between performance, luxury and long-range cruising capability. The first unit is scheduled for delivery in January 2027.
Headquartered in New York and supported by an international team of experienced sailors, designers and marine industry experts, VMG aims to introduce a new generation of offshore cruising trimarans that seamlessly combine exceptional sailing performance with comfort, efficiency and practicality.

According to Michael Schwartz, Founder and Principal of VMG, the VMG 53 has been engineered to eliminate the traditional compromises associated with performance multihulls.
“The VMG 53 is designed to bring together performance, luxury and dynamic stability in a way that has not been achieved before. Its purposeful, progressive and timeless exterior is supported by an innovative deck arrangement and propulsion system that enables confident short-handed sailing,” Schwartz said.
A Sculpted Exterior with Seamless Interior Integration
The VMG 53 features flowing, sculpted lines that eliminate conventional flat surfaces, creating a striking sense of movement while cleverly concealing its spacious interior volume.

The first hull debuts with a sophisticated exterior finish that shifts from deep green to rich golden bronze depending on changing light conditions. This distinctive color palette mirrors the warm tones of the yacht’s cork flooring, eucalyptus wood finishes and bronze hardware, reinforcing VMG’s holistic approach to exterior and interior design.
Innovative Tender Garage Enhances Functionality
One of the yacht’s defining innovations is its fully enclosed tender garage, integrated into the stern of the central hull. Beyond preserving the vessel’s sleek profile, the garage improves weight distribution while protecting the tender from the elements.
Designed specifically around VMG’s custom-built carbon-fibre tender powered by ZeroJet, the system incorporates a wireless remote that allows owners or captains to open the transom door, simplifying launch and recovery operations. A dedicated Adventure Locker provides separate storage for water sports equipment and personal gear, supporting active lifestyles without compromising the yacht’s clean exterior appearance.
Twin-Engine Configuration Improves Efficiency and Range
Departing from the conventional single-engine arrangement found on many trimarans, the VMG 53 utilizes twin 57-horsepower engines mounted in each outer hull.

The configuration delivers exceptional maneuverability in marinas while providing impressive cruising performance and fuel efficiency underway. Once sailing conditions allow the windward hull to rise, the yacht can operate efficiently using a single engine working alongside the sails, while the second engine is lifted clear of the water to eliminate drag.
Engineering studies conducted by VPLP also confirm significant weight savings, excellent maneuverability and enhanced operational efficiency compared with traditional propulsion systems.
Sail Pit Creates a New Operational Hub
At the heart of the VMG 53’s deck layout is the innovative sail pit, a centralized operating station from which every sail control can be managed. This arrangement enables genuine single- or double-handed sailing while simplifying onboard operations.
Critical sailing systems, including the mainsheet, daggerboard and staysail, are integrated into dedicated control systems with manual backup available for all essential functions.

Beyond its operational role, the sail pit also serves as a social space, positioned just two meters from the on-deck owner’s suite and directly connected to both the navigation station and galley through dedicated communication hatches. This unique layout allows crew members to exchange food, drinks and essential information safely and efficiently while minimizing movement around the yacht.
The close proximity of the sail pit, owner’s suite, helm and navigation station also enhances onboard safety by allowing immediate access to every critical operating area whenever conditions change.
Forward Helm Prioritizes Visibility and Control
The VMG 53 introduces a forward central helm developed around four guiding principles: centralization, visibility, connectivity and weather protection.
The position provides direct sightlines to the sail pit while keeping navigation systems and operational controls within easy reach. For favorable weather, owners can also choose an aft windward steering position to maximize the excitement of high-performance sailing.
To overcome the visibility challenges traditionally associated with forward helm stations, VMG has incorporated advanced technology delivering instant 360-degree deck-level visibility at the touch of a button. Twin Nemesis displays, a cantilevered steering wheel and interchangeable seating options—including both a leaning post and a fully supportive captain’s chair—further enhance comfort and usability during both active sailing and extended passages.
A New Benchmark for Offshore Luxury Trimarans
By combining sculpted contemporary styling with an integrated tender garage, an efficient twin-engine propulsion system, and a highly connected deck layout centered around the sail pit and forward helm, the VMG 53 establishes a new benchmark in offshore luxury trimaran design.
The first VMG 53 is currently under construction, with delivery scheduled for January 2027, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the emerging American shipyard and its vision for the future of high-performance cruising.
