Maldives – The Indian Ocean is no stranger to breathtaking performances, but each September it raises the bar. From September 4 to 11, 2026, the prestigious Surfing Champions Trophy will return to the iconic Sultans break at Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa, promising another week of elite competition, refined hospitality, and unparalleled access to the sport’s biggest names.
Now in its 14th edition, the invitation-only event stands apart on the global sporting calendar. Bringing together a select group of world-class surfers, the competition spans three board disciplines—single fin, twin fin, and thruster—set against one of the Maldives’ most celebrated reef breaks. The resort serves as an exclusive island base for competitors, judges, and guests, blending high-performance sport with luxury island living.

Organizers confirmed that the 2026 line-up will be unveiled gradually in the months ahead, building anticipation for one of surfing’s most anticipated gatherings.
A Legacy of Surfing Excellence
Since its debut in 2011, the Surfing Champions Trophy has redefined competitive surfing. The inaugural event saw Mark Occhilupo dominate all three divisions before clinching the Grand Champions title against world longboard champion Josh Constable—a benchmark that set the tone for years to follow.
Over the years, the Sultans break has welcomed a roster of legendary names, including Damien Hardman, Taylor Knox, Dave “Rasta” Rastovich, Shane Dorian, Taj Burrow, Josh Kerr, Kelly Slater, and Joel Parkinson. Taj Burrow notably secured his third overall title in 2024, cementing his place among the event’s greats.
The competition has also attracted global icons such as Carissa Moore, Maya Gabeira, Tom Curren, Rob Machado, Layne Beachley, Bethany Hamilton, and a new generation of stylists including Mikey February, Jeremy Flores, and Jadson Andre. Each edition delivers a unique mix of talent while maintaining an exceptional competitive standard.
2025: A Defining Moment
The 2025 edition set a dramatic benchmark. Tahitian surfer Michel Bourez delivered one of the most memorable performances in the event’s history, overcoming a hamstring injury to win both the thruster division and the Grand Final within 24 hours. His last-minute perfect score of 10 remains a standout moment that will be difficult to surpass.

He was joined by a strong field including Australian Olympian Owen Wright, Brazil’s Jesse Mendes, free-surf pioneer Craig Anderson, and Maldivian wildcard Ismail “Smiley” Rasheed, contributing to one of the most exciting editions to date.
An Immersive Experience for Guests
Beyond spectating, Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa offers guests the opportunity to be part of the action through its “Surf’s Up” package. The experience includes expert coaching sessions with Tropicsurf professionals, guided excursions to renowned surf breaks, daily yoga classes, and post-surf treatments at ŪRJĀ Naturopathy Island. The package also features round-trip speedboat transfers, daily breakfast, and full access to surf equipment.

Evenings are marked by signature Four Seasons events, including curated cocktail gatherings set in scenic island locations. With private chefs, bespoke drinks, and a relaxed yet refined atmosphere, guests can unwind, relive the day’s highlights, and engage with professional surfers in an intimate setting.
Further details on the 2026 competitors will be announced in phases via official channels, as anticipation builds for another landmark edition of the Surfing Champions Trophy.
